Sealing Material Determined The Sealing Performance Of Stainless Steel Gate Valve

A gate valve is a valve that opens by lifting a gate (disc) out of the path. When the valve is fully open, gate valves are full bore, meaning there is nothing to obstruct the flow because the gate and pipeline diameter have the same opening. This bore diameter also determines the valve size. An advantage of this fullbore design is very low friction loss, which saves energy and reduces total cost of ownership. By choosing different material, stainless steel gate valves are used for water, steam, oil, nitric acid, acetic acid,strong oxidizing and urea medium. And stainless steel gate valve has handwheel operated, gear operated and electrical operated.

Gate Valve are full open when the lifting height of wedge is equal to the valve diameter and the flow is full in gate valve port, but the postion can't be overseed when valve is running. In daily use, the valve is at full open position if the handwheel (gear) can't be moved compared to the apex of valve stem. To prevent valve deadlocked from temperature change, we often open valve at top apex of valve stem then back one or two round. We take this position as valve full open position. That's way, the full open position of stainless steel gate valve is according to Valve Stroke.

There are rising stem stainless steel gate valve and non-rising stem stainless steel gate valve. Rising stem stainless steel gate valve is a stainless steel gate valve which is able to follow the opening/closing position by moving the stem up and down momement. Non-rising stem stainless steel gate valve is generall threaded into the upper art of the disc/gate and have pointer threaded on to the top to indicated position. Non rising stems are required limited vertical space.

The most important part is sealing surface, the sealing surface is directly effect the valve performance and life. It is necessary to take corrosion resistance,impact resistance and anti-oxidation as consideration when choose seal material.
